DAILY MAIL PROTEST
OCTOBER 2010
This week, many druids, pagans and other faith groups were shocked and disgusted at the comments made in Melanie Philips Daily Mail article
James Sunbird Carrington created a petition calling for Melanie Philips to make a full public apology for the offence her comments caused. Since it's launch, the petition has already received over 3500 signatures from people of all faiths across the world. The petition can be viewed and signed here (NOW CLOSED)
Melanie's comments are not just aimed at druids - this involves everyone that doesn't fit in her right-wing views of religion and faith.
As such, James has invited us all to join him hand the petition to Robin Esser at the Daily Mail offices in London (Associated Newspapers Ltd, 2 Derry Street, London, W8 5TT) on October 11th at noon. A second copy will then be walked to the Press Complaints Commission (Halton House, 20-23 High Holborn, EC1N 7JD) shortly afterwards.
"So come robed up and show your support. It's a peaceful gathering - 'call to arms' doesn't mean come armed, just come and be counted - united behind a common cause - that we are offended by the inaccurate and hate filled words written by this woman in National Press!
Invite your Groves, Orders and friends. You don't have to be druid or even pagan to be offended by her words in the article.
Information on gathering point to be added soon. "
MELANIE PHILLIPS
The petition was created by James Sunbird Carrington who was deeply offended by the unfounded and offensive comments made by Melanie Phillips in her article. James invited Arthur to join his campaign to help raise awareness, which he was more than do. Utilising Facebook and other forums, the word was quickly spread to the corners of the world.
On 11th October 2010 druids, pagans and other faith groups handed in a petition to the Daily Mail offices, requesting that Melanie Phillips was made to apologise for her defamatory and highly offensive comments in her article about druidary being recognised as a religion.
Thanks to James’ dedication and passion, he gathered over 4000 signatories from all faiths, all over the world. This was printed off and delivered by peaceful hands to the Daily Mail and then to the Press Complaints Commission.
Months later and the PCC have written to all those who wrote in separately to complain about Melanie Phillips, stating it was her opinion.... yeah, heard it before! The way I see it, it was worth doing even if she was not made accountable for her hateful diatribe. 4000+ people united behind James, equally dismayed and disgusted that such a bigoted article could be allowed to be printed in today’s press. James travelled from Edinburgh to London to deliver the petition at great cost, as did many others.
The Warband is not just one man... it is made of many people like James who are passionate about Truth, Honour and Justice, who will stand and be counted when it matters most, even in the face of great adversity.

Daily Fail
They came from far and wide,
To show the Daily Mail,
That they had nowt to hide.
The paper told some nasty lies,
About the peaceful, loving folk,
So Sunbird started a petition.
What a thoroughly decent bloke!
Over 4000 people all agreed,
Mad Mel had got it wrong,
Sunbird came from Edinburgh,
And many joined the throng.
Hundreds told the PCC,
That the paper printed lies,
We handed them the petition too,
A hard copy of quite a size.
Some turned up in flowing robes,
Some came far by bike,
All stood shoulder to shoulder
To express their deep dislike.
See, Bigotry is a foul disease,
Infecting the ill informed,
To tolerate such madness,
Is to allow all folk to be harmed.
You don't need to be a Pagan,
To know your right from wrong,
Just have a loving heart that shines,
love and light all day long.
So the moral of this story,
Is Justice, Honour and Truth,
And don't piss off the Pagans,
Cos next time, we'll be protesting on your roof!
